The HP 86145A portable Optical Spectrum Analyzer is the top of the range high performance unit, ideally suited to WDM applications where power and wavelength accuracy, dynamic range and low polarization dependency are critical. This instrument has all the performance capabilities of its larger sibling, the HP 86142A, while having a smaller 12.8" x 16.8" footprint and weighing 32 lbs.
In these units, many of the OSA high performance parameters have been optimized to cover the EDFA extended wavelength bands (1525 nm to 1610 nm). This extended wavelength range also makes these OSA's ideal for testing WDM passive components (filters, multiplexers and Bragg Gratings), characterizing DWDM transmitter lasers and analyzing DWDM multi-channel system performance. The 40 dB dynamic range at 25 GHz offset makes the OSA ideal for testing WDM systems and components with 50 GHz (0.4 nm) or less channel spacing while maintaining an impressive 70 dB dynamic range at 0.5 nm from the peak.
